Explore the Neponset Watershed

Canoeing or kayaking

There are lots of options for boating along the Neponset River, and in local ponds and lakes. Some of our favorite paddles include:

  • Launching from Signal Hill in Canton and heading upstream or downstream
  • Paul’s Bridge in Milton – heading upstream
  • Neponset Estuary (best at mid to high tide), launching from Milton Landing or DCR Neponset Park in Dorchester
  • Lake Massapoag in Sharon – great for sailing as well

For a more detailed view of the river, including launch sites and points of interest, we offer a Neponset River Paddler’s Guide for just $5 (free for members). Click here for more information.

Hiking, biking, and strolling

The Neponset Greenway Trail is a miles long, multi-use trail that runs along the Neponset River, from Mattapan to Port Norfolk in Dorchester. This flat, paved trail is off road, and is perfect for families and all abilities.

The Quincy RiverWalk is a 2 mile long public walkway along the Neponset River and Commander Shea Boulevard, beginning at the Adams Inn Gazebo and running to DCR Squantum Point. The trail is a combination of paved path/road and crushed stone.

In addition to the two trails along the lower Neponset River, there are acres of parks and trails for all abilities throughout the Neponset Watershed.
