On a recent visit to the Martha Jones Elementary School in Westwood, a group of 5th grade students shared a cute animated video with me about groundwater. It was age appropriate and informative, and had a very catchy song, which the students loved to sing – loudly. More importantly, they were learning about groundwater and were excited about it.
From my perspective, using technology, music or art to engage students in science is a positive thing. As someone who spends a great deal of time presenting water conservation material in the classroom, I’m all for “cool” videos about groundwater, and on-line games like Disney’s (Game of the Year) Where’s My Water? When kids are enthusiastically singing songs about groundwater, and better understanding where their drinking water is coming from, I consider it a successful lesson.
Watch the groundwater video here and see if you learn a thing or two!
