Featured Speaker,
Ian Cooke

The history of the Neponset Watershed includes 10,000 years of human habitation and over 375 years of industrialization.

After centuries of pollution from paper mills and sewer discharges, wetland loss, and general neglect and disdain,
the Neponset River finally gained an ally in 1967, when a group of local conservationists incorporated the organization that would become the Neponset River Watershed Association.

Since then, the river has been cleaned up, better protected, and opened up as a resource that is now enjoyed by thousands of families every day.

At this special 50th anniversary annual meeting, Ian Cooke, the Association’s long time Executive Director, will tell the story of how the river has changed during those five decades and some of the many memorable people who played a role in the life and leadership of the Watershed Association.

Ian has been with the Neponset River Watershed Association since 1992, and is the chief cheerleader for the Neponset River. In his capacity as Executive Director, he does everything from meeting with state and local officials, to chainsawing old docks at our annual river cleanups.
