Like many rivers, the Neponset’s natural systems are being challenged every day. As more people settle into the Neponset Valley, increased water usage lowers stream and groundwater levels, and more paved surfaces send pollutants rushing into the river whenever it rains, taking a high toll on the Neponset’s health.

Did you know that the water you use at home can directly affect how much water remains in the Neponset? Or, that when you dump chemicals into an outdoor storm drain — or simply use them on your lawn — they make their way into the river? RiverSmart is a great guide to taking care of the Neponset Watershed. And best of all, it’s easy!
