River Fund 2007

Father and son take a break during a morning spent volunteering with NepRWA, removing debris from the Neponset River.

Dear Friend of the Neponset,

Last summer, NepRWA uncovered several illegal discharges that were sending more than 5,000 gallons of sewage a day into the river! These discharges are being cleaned up right now thanks to generous gifts to last year's River Fund from members like you.

That support launched NepRWA's new Pollution Hotspot Program, a three-year effort to do the painstaking detective work needed to find the few remaining sources of sewage pollution in the watershed. We hope that you'll join us in making the most generous gift you can to the River Fund, so we can get back out there in 2008 to continue this and other important work.

Water quality is just the beginning of what your gift accomplishes. Whether the issue is water conservation, land protection, smart growth or wetland restoration, NepRWA uses a potent combination of science, education and advocacy to get results in your community.

NepRWA has also been pushing hard for the cleanup of carcinogenic PCBs in the river-bottom and in fish. We've been working to restore the river's herring and shad runs all the way up to Norwood. We've documented the extreme low water levels of this past summer and are advocating for measures to keep our streams from drying up in the future. We've also tackled numerous development projects and won concessions that will help protect our water supplies and waterways for years to come.

People who care about their town and their local environment are what make this work possible. We hope you can help by making a tax-deductible donation to the River Fund. Would you consider a gift of $75 or $100 for clean water? Or, perhaps a donation of $10 a month for a year? Whatever the amount, we need your help! Thanks in advance, and happy holidays!

Sincerely,

Taber Keally, President

Ian Cooke, Executive Director

P.S. With state and foundation support on the wane, the generosity of members like you is more important than ever to keeping the Neponset clean, flowing and accessible.
