Development Director
The Neponset Watershed flows through 14 communities southwest of Boston, from Foxborough to Dorchester Bay. The Neponset River Watershed Association is a nonprofit organization dedicated to cleaning up, preserving and opening up the Neponset River, its tributaries and surrounding watershed lands. For almost 40 years, the Association’s staff and volunteers have been accomplishing this mission through outreach, advocacy, environmental monitoring and direct restoration projects. The Development Director leads the Association’s efforts to recruit and cultivate individual and business members and donors. The Development Director reports to the Executive Director and works in close cooperation with other staff and the Board Development Committee to achieve fundraising goals. This is a permanent, part-time position of 16 to 24 hours per week, working in a fun, fast-paced environment. The schedule is very flexible but may require occasional evening or weekend participation. EEO/AA employer. Duties The Development Director designs and oversees implementation of an integrated strategy for member/donor recruitment and development. He or she plans and carries out direct mail, electronic, telephone, house party and personal solicitations. The Development Director serves as the staff liaison to the Development Committee and helps build the capacity of Board Members, volunteers and other staff to serve as effective fundraisers. Qualifications The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree and at least two to three years of successful experience working with major donor, annual appeal and/or membership programs. Alternatively, candidates may have comparable experience in a sales or marketing role with an emphasis on customer relationship management. They should be familiar with the range of development strategies and tools available to organizations like NepRWA. They must have excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal and volunteer management/motivation skills. Knowledge and interest in environmental issues is beneficial, but by no means required.
