Environmental Opportunities

Peruse this list of organizations offering environmental opportunities around the Neponset River Watershed and beyond. You can also find out about one-off environmental events and events organized by NepRWA. Opportunities Organized by Region

Blue Hills Reservation:

DCR Events: Events organized by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation - South Region, including interpretive walks, snow-shoeing, nature-watching, and more. 

FBH Events: Events organized by the nonprofit organization Friends of Blue Hills, including walks, trail work, exotic, invasive plant management, and more.

Boston: 

Arnold Arboretum: Jamaica Plain. Participate in a variety of workshops and events at this peaceful and well-maintained parkland in Boston. Free, guided walking tours available on various days & times in October. View upcoming environmental events, or call 617-524-1718, X 100.

BNAN Events: Boston. The Boston Natural Areas Network hosts a variety of events in the Boston area, year-round.

MassAudubon Boston Nature Center & Wildlife Sanctuary Programs: Mattapan. Enjoy nature trails, a Nature Center, year-round activities and urban gardens.

Dept. of Environmental, Earth & Ocean Sciences, UMass-Boston: Attend expert-led seminars on a variety of environmental subjects.

Dorchester Environmental Health Coalition

DotBike: Dorchester. Dotbike is a community of local cyclists who promote increased awareness, opportunity, and safe cycling in Dorchester through advocacy and bicycling events. 

Family Movie Series: Dorchester. Enjoy a free movie series at sunset in July and August. Location: Pope John Paul II Park, Gallivan Blvd., Dorchester. Sponsored by DCR and BNAN. For more info., call 617-542-7696.

Franklin Park Zoo: The Zoo offers 1/2-price admission from 10:00AM-Noon on the first Saturday of every month. 

New England Aquarium lecture series.

New England:   University of Massachusetts Amherst publishes the on-line "Town Board,"  advertising conservation learning opportunities.

Cambridge:   Harvard University Center for the Environment: Lecture & Event Series.

Harvard University's Museum of Natural History: Lectures & Events

Somerville:   Tufts University Global Development & Environment Institute: Lectures & Events

Framingham:   Garden in the Woods/New England Wild Flower Society: Come explore trails in a woodland garden with 1500 native plant species and cultivars, including 200 rare and endangered species, pick up some native plants at the nursery, take classes, or volunteer! Tours are available on weekdays at 10AM and on weekends at 2PM, and are included with admission (no reservations necessary). Admission: $8 adults, $6 seniors and students with ID, $4 children 3-18. Free for members and children under 3. Hours: 9AM-7PM. All proceeds support plant conservation. Location: New England Wild Flower Society, 180 Hemenway Rd., Framingham, MA. Norfolk:   MassAudubon Society's Stony Brook Sanctuary: Activities & hiking over a beautiful expanse of land, with a lake.

Providence, RI:   Brown University Center for Environmental Studies: Lectures & Events
