NepRWA

Annual Meeting

2009

With Featured Speaker

Kristen Ferry

6:30PM  ·  Thursday  ·  June 11  ·  Meditech  ·  Canton

One-hundred Friends of the Neponset came together for delicious food - and a smorgasbord of food for thought - as we explored the health of local migratory fisheries (and the life stories of several remarkable fish) and the significance of the Neponset River to their future, with Featured Speaker Kristen Ferry. NepRWA’s current projects were also presented, and conservation awards were given to Joan Kimball, former Director of the Massachusetts Riverways Program of the MA Department of Fish and Game, and to Mary Griffin, Commissioner of the MA Department of Fish and Game. Enjoy this collage of Tom Palmer's images taken the night of the Annual Meeting:

Featured Speaker Kristen Ferry is a biologist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and formerly with the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries (DMF). She specializes in biological studies, migratory fish passage, and habitat restoration. She is also the coordinator of the American Shad Restoration Project, a collaborative effort between DMF and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to restore a sustainable population of American shad to the Charles River. Ms. Ferry received a M.S. in Wildlife and Fisheries Conservation from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Her graduate work focused on factors influencing Striped bass distribution among rivers along the Massachusetts coast. As part of her study, she examined the diets of thousands of Striped bass in 13 systems spanning from the Parker River in Newbury to the West Branch of the Westport River in Westport.

Thanks to the generosity of Meditech-Canton, the NepRWA Annual Meeting took place in the stunning indoor tropical garden and auditorium of Meditech-Canton, at the foot of the Blue Hills Reservation.
